On Sunday night last a trunk belonging to Captain Siddins was stolen out of the cabin of the Campbell Macquarie, containing upwards of 601. in dollars, besides wearing apparel, jewellery, &c. of considerable value, and some important papers, among which were those belonging to the vessel. The empty trunk was found in possession of a man at the south end of Gloucester street about four in the morning, where he was apprehended, and in the course of the two following days part of the dollars were traced to the possession of Charles Pickering, who has been since committed for trial, together with Catherine Byrne, who co- habited with him ; and John Jones, the prisoner who were found in possession of the trunk

The Humble Petition of Charles Pickering under sentence of transportation for life at Port Macquarie. Humbly Sheweth that petitioner s wife Catharine Pickering now in Sydney Gaol was tried at the last Criminal Court and sentence to three years transportation. That petitioner has two children by his said wife which he is obliged to support and their being very young require the assistance of the mother to take care of them. Petitioner therefore humbly prays that you will be graciously please to allow his wife to be sent to Port Macquarie to serve the term of said sentence and to take care of her children and petitioner will ever as duty bound pray....
